Letter from the President’s Desk

Dear Supporters, Volunteers, and Staff,

As we close another remarkable year at the Freedmen’s Town Museums, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you who has contributed your time, resources, and passion to our shared vision. This year has been one of milestones, challenges, and immense progress—all made possible by your steadfast commitment.

From the preview opening of the J. Vance and Pauline Lewis Museum of Legal Professions and Educators to the continued restoration of historic homes like the Jacob Nixon House, your support has helped us create vibrant spaces that honor and celebrate the legacy of Freedmen’s Town. Each event, educational tour, and collaboration reinforces our mission to preserve history and inspire future generations.

None of this would have been possible without the tireless efforts of our volunteers, the generosity of our donors, and the dedication of our staff, including our Educational Director, Resident Historian, and Archeologist. You are the backbone of our success, and we are truly grateful.

As we prepare for the coming year, we have set an ambitious goal to raise $50,000 by March 31, 2025. Reaching this goal will allow us to accelerate programming, expand preservation efforts, and secure critical preservation grants during the first quarter of the year. These funds will also support essential administrative needs, including office rentals, archival storage, and social media maintenance, while ensuring the continued salaries of our dedicated staff.

Your generosity can make a profound difference in preserving the rich heritage of Freedmen’s Town and ensuring its stories endure for generations to come. Together, we can achieve this goal and continue to honor the legacy of this historic community.
